Letter from the Chairman
HURLERS – YOUR CLUB NEEDS YOU!
Dear Members of Plunketts,
2018 was a memorable year for St. Oliver Plunkett Eoghan Ruadh GAA Club hurling, with success in the U21B Championship and finalists in the Senior B Championship. There were also strong league performances in Senior 2 and Minor 1 and at Juvenile level for U15 and U16. The Senior team will also be competing in the Senior A Championship this year.
I would like to be able to tell you that the future is bright for hurling in our Club but unfortunately, we find ourselves in a precarious position challenged with fielding a Junior Hurling team for the 2019 season. Those of you who know me, know that I would always attempt to resolve any issues within the Club as discretely as possible but on this occasion, I feel it necessary to issue a call to action across our digital communication platforms to all players and members to support us in ensuring we have a junior hurling team.
Basically, and in simple terms, we are struggling to find players for this impending season. There is a small core panel but we need more players and management to commit to ensuring that St. Oliver Plunkett Eoghan Ruadh can continue to develop and nurture our great game of hurling for future generations including our juvenile teams who have brought honour to this great club over the past number of years.
I am asking the entire membership of the Club to back me on ensuring that we field a team this year be it as a player, mentor or supporter. The core group of players involved with the Junior Hurling team are to be commended for forming a committee amongst themselves to ensure every stone is unturned so that we can field a team for this year. I would also appeal to our younger adult players to try dual codes of both football and hurling. Some of our great stalwarts have played at the top level for the Club in both codes and continue to do so, which I commend them on.
I am personally facilitating a meeting and inviting all potential players to attend this meeting in the club on Tuesday 12th February at 9pm to listen to your views and hopefully achieve a successful outcome where we have a junior team in place for 2019 and beyond. Anything else would be disastrous for the long-term future of adult hurling within St. Oliver Plunkett Eoghan Ruadh GAA Club.
Anybody interested in committing please attend the meeting or if you are interested but cannot attend please contact Cormac Finn 085 122 5662 with your expression of interest to either play, mentor or support the team in 2019.
With Kind Regards,
